Research – Complimentary Colors

Complimentary colors are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. These colors are especially pleasing each other and there is actually scientific evidence that some colors look better together than others.

When you use complimentary colors in the same color scheme, they will create a dynamic visual look and be pleasing to the eye. This is because different cones in the eye perceive different colors of light. That means that complimentary colors play up each other’s intensity.

For example, a bit of orange will really pop if it is surrounded by blue because the eye really wants to see that color. Therefore a combination of two different complimentary colors will create a balance, since is simultaneously stimulates different part of the eye.

I think complimentary colors can be good to work with in an infographic. It is possible to make different things pop, create flow and balance. I have used Adobe Color CC to find a good color combination.
